Actually, sort of. The Corvair was introduced just 3 years earlier and the Imp shared many of the handling difficulties that needed to be sorted out. However while the Corvair was going after the Beetle, the Imp was going after the Mini.

Yep, I was making a joke. The Imp/Chamois design team actually examined RR setup elements and overall design by hooning a Corvair. The design ripoff isn't as obvious with the Imp, but the Chamois makes absolutely clear how much they were "inspired" by said Corvair.
